The History of The Flower Of Life
The Flower of Life is a symbol that spans the globe and has been seen in ancient texts, museums and architecture. The earliest images of the Flower of Life symbol are believed to be over 6000 years old and were discovered in the Temple of Osiris in Egypt, however it was not until the 1990’s that this iconic symbol became known as the “Flower of Life”.
What Is The Flower Of Life?
The Flower of Life is a common symbol in sacred geometry (a branch of geometry that attributes sacred meanings to particular geometric shapes and proportions). It consists of 19 overlapping circles which are evenly spaced and in perfect proportion, with a circle (sometimes a double lined circle), around its perimeter.
What does the Flower of Life Symbol represent?
The Flower of Life symbol represents the cycle of creation, stemming from the flower in the centre of the symbol which represents the source of life. It is a symbol that has been attributed as containing all knowledge, both male and female. In fact, according to Melchizedek, D. in his book The Ancient Secret Of The Flower Of Life- Volume 1 " the symbol contains every single mathematical formula, every law of physics, every harmony in music, every biological life form right down to your specific body".
It is said that those who understand the Flower of Life pattern will be given divine knowledge of all creation.
It is also regarded as an image of balance and harmony.
What Is The Seed of Life?
The Seed of Life can be seen at the centre of the Flower of Life.
It consists of 7 circles that are interconnected and when removed and placed within an exterior circle, become the symbol known as the “Seed of Life”.
What Is The Relationship Between The Seed of Life & The Flower Of Life?
It is said that the Flower of Life represents the cycle of a fruit tree. Within the cycle of the fruit tree there are 5 steps:
1. The fruit tree makes a flower
2. The flower makes a fruit
3. The fruit makes a seed (seed of life)
4. The fruit drops to the ground, rots and the seed falls onto the ground
5. The seed grows and becomes a tree, thus beginning the cycle again
How Can You Utilise The Flower Of Life Symbol in your practice?
Symbols are the ideal tools for meditation. You can easily employ the Flower of Life symbol into your meditation practice by printing out the symbol, drawing the symbol on a piece of paper, or purchasing an object with the Flower of Life already on it, and using it as a focal point during meditation. In fact, drawing the flower of life symbol freehand can help you gain a deeper understanding of it as you will have a more intimate connection to its creation.
If you are good with visualisation, you can also visualise the flower of life within your mind's eye whilst performing your meditation. If, unlike myself, you can visualise objects easily, this is a great way to get to know the symbol, as it is actually a multi dimensional symbol, not 2 dimensional as it appears on paper.
