Magickal Symbols- The Triple Moon/ Triple Goddess Symbol
Share
The Triple Moon symbol is a well-known symbol, especially within practices such as Wicca. It represents the three primary phases of the Moon (waxing, full, and waning), which also correspond to different aspects of the divine feminine or goddess energy, hence why it is commonly referred to as the triple goddess symbol.
As the Triple Goddess, this symbol represents the shift in life stages:
- Waxing Crescent (Maiden): Represents youth, new beginnings, growth, and creativity. The Maiden is associated with innocence, purity, and new ventures.
- Full Moon (Mother): Symbolizes fertility, nurturing, power, and abundance. The Mother phase reflects the peak of life and creative energy.
- Waning Crescent (Crone): Embodies wisdom, endings, transformation, and the letting go of the old. The Crone is connected to death, rebirth, and the completion of cycles.
Together, the Triple Moon represents the cyclical nature of life and the phases of existence: birth, life, death, and rebirth.
Although the Triple Moon/ Triple Goddess symbol is viewed as a modern symbol, it is associated with ancient concepts. For example, the Triple Moon symbol is often associated with triple deities such as the Greek Goddess of the moon- Hecate, who was first depicted as a triple deity in the 5th century BCE.
